Domain Renewal Filter for WHMCS Print

  • 0

Domain Renewal Filter hides entries on the WHMCS domain-renewals page according to renewal windows you configure for each TLD. It is useful when your registrar only accepts renewals close to expiry.

The module filters the displayed renewal list. It does not ask the registrar whether a renewal will succeed, change domain dates or invoices, or enforce these rules across every renewal route. Registrar errors can still occur.

Before installing

The documented minimums are WHMCS 8.0 and PHP 7.4. Use a PHP version supported by your installed WHMCS release. Confirm that your order form uses the standard domain-renewals page and test it with your active theme.

Check the renewal rules with each registrar you use. The bundled TLD list and 28-day default are starting settings, not a current registry policy feed. Rules are matched by TLD, not by registrar, so the same TLD receives the same window across registrars.

Installation

  1. Back up your WHMCS files and database.
  2. Upload modules/addons/domain_renewal_filter/ into your WHMCS installation, preserving the folder name.
  3. Open System Settings > Addon Modules, or Setup > Addon Modules in older admin layouts, and activate Domain Renewal Filter.
  4. Configure administrator access, then open Addons > Domain Renewal Filter.
  5. Review the settings below and save them before relying on the filter.

Configure the filter

  • Enable Module: Turn renewal-list filtering on or off.
  • Default Renewal Window: Number of days before expiry at which a restricted TLD becomes visible. The initial value is 28.
  • Restricted TLDs: Enter one extension per line, including the leading dot. Replace or amend the supplied list to match your registrar rules.
  • Custom Rules: Set a separate positive number of days for a TLD, using one .tld:days entry per line.
  • Hide Expired: Hide domains whose days-until-expiry value is negative. This is enabled initially. Turn it off if clients should still see expired domains offered by WHMCS.

For example, .example:30 means that the configured extension becomes visible when it is 30 days or less from expiry. This illustrates the syntax; use a real TLD and the window confirmed by your registrar.

How matching works

  1. Custom rules are checked first, with longer suffixes checked before shorter ones.
  2. If no custom rule matches, a TLD in the restricted list uses the default window.
  3. If neither list matches, the module leaves that entry visible unless Hide Expired applies.
  4. A restricted domain is hidden while its days until expiry exceed the selected window.

A smaller window makes domains appear later. Increasing the window makes them appear earlier. The module uses the expiry information supplied by WHMCS, so incorrect dates can produce an incorrect list.

Check the result

Use a test client with domains inside and outside a configured window. Open the renewal page and confirm that only the expected entries disappear. Also check an unrestricted TLD and an expired domain. Repeat this check after changing your theme or order form.

Troubleshooting

  • If nothing is filtered, check activation, the Enable Module setting, and whether the page uses WHMCS's domain-renewals template with renewal data.
  • If a specific TLD is unaffected, check the leading dot, spelling and any more-specific custom rule.
  • If too many domains are hidden, review Hide Expired, the expiry dates, the restricted list and whether the window is too small.
  • If registrars reject a visible renewal, check the registrar's reason. Visibility is not a renewal guarantee.

For support, include your module, WHMCS and PHP versions, theme/order form, the affected TLD, relevant rule and expiry timing. Do not include account passwords or registrar API keys.
