A domain pointer connects an additional domain to a website already on your DirectAdmin account. Choose whether visitors should be redirected to the primary domain or keep the additional domain in the address bar.
Create the pointer
- Select the destination website in DirectAdmin.
- Open Account Manager → Domain Pointers.
- Select Create Domain Pointer and enter the additional domain.
- To serve the same site under the additional name, check Create as an Alias. For a redirect to the primary domain, leave it unchecked.
- Create the pointer and test the result.
DNS and HTTPS
The additional domain must resolve to the correct hosting service. You can use the hosting nameservers or maintain the required records at another authoritative DNS provider; matching nameservers are not mandatory.
Ensure the certificate covers every hostname visitors use, including a hostname that redirects to another site. Check the names selected in DirectAdmin's SSL certificate controls. If the pointer option or certificate name is unavailable, contact ArkHost.
If the address changes unexpectedly
An alias does not override redirects inside WordPress, another application, or the site's web-server rules. Check those settings if the site still redirects to its primary address.
