Create Domain Alias Print

A domain alias serves an existing website under another domain name. It does not create an independent hosting account, mailbox set or website.

Create the alias

1. In DirectAdmin, select the website that should receive the additional domain.
2. Open Account Manager → Domain Pointers.
3. Select Create Domain Pointer.
4. Enter the additional domain and check Create as an Alias.
5. Create the alias.

The additional domain must resolve to the hosting service. It can use the same nameservers or correctly configured records at another DNS provider. Verify that HTTPS covers the additional name before sending visitors to it.

Alias or redirect?

An alias normally keeps the requested domain in the address bar. A non-alias pointer redirects to the destination domain. Your application can still impose its own canonical-domain redirect.

Use a separately added domain if you need an independent website. Do not assume a pointer gives you independent email accounts or subdomain management. For a second domain on Hosted Email, use that service's domain-alias controls instead.
