You can direct an additional domain to the root of your primary website. For example, if your primary domain is example.com and you point example.net to it, visitors accessing example.net will see the content of example.com, but the URL in their browser will remain example.net.
Prerequisites
- Access to your DirectAdmin account
- Ownership of both the primary and additional domains
- The additional domain's nameservers correctly pointed to your hosting account
Step-by-Step Guide
- Log in to your DirectAdmin account.
- Navigate to the Domain Pointers section:
- In the Account Manager section, click on the "Domain Pointers" icon, or
- Type "Pointers" in the navigation filter box and select the option when it appears.
- Click the "Create Domain Pointer" button in the top right corner.
- In the "Source Domain" field, enter your additional domain name (e.g., example.net).
- Uncheck the "Create as an Alias" option.
- Click the "Create" button to set up the domain pointer.
Important Notes
- Ensure that your additional domain's nameservers are set to the same nameservers as your primary domain. Without this step, the domain pointer will not function correctly.
- The content displayed will be from your primary domain, but the URL in the browser's address bar will show the additional domain.
- This method does not create a redirect; it simply displays the content of your primary site under a different domain name.
Troubleshooting
If the domain pointer doesn't work as expected:
- Verify that both domains are using the same nameservers.
- Allow up to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate globally.
- Check your DirectAdmin settings to ensure the pointer is correctly configured.
