How to create and download DirectAdmin backups.
Create Backup
- DirectAdmin → Advanced Features → Create/Restore Backups
- Select what to backup:
- Email accounts
- Databases
- Web files
- Domain settings
- Click Create Backup
- Wait for completion notification in Support Center
Download Backup
- DirectAdmin → File Manager
- Open backups folder
- Find your backup file (named with date)
- Click Download
Backup Tips
- Full backup = select all options
- Backups appear in queue, not instantly
- Large sites take longer to backup
- Download completed backups and keep an independent copy. DirectAdmin gives user-created backups distinct filenames, including a sequence number for multiple backups on the same day.
Storage Locations
After downloading, store in:
- Local computer
- External drive
- Cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox)
Notes
- Manual backups supplement any automatic backups included with your service. Check your available restore points rather than assuming a particular backup tool or retention.
- Useful before major changes
- Check file size before downloading on slow connections
